Last weekend I was in London shooting the lookbook for Fashion Rocks and stayed with Daniel (fellow Garçon de Glasgow) in Hackney. East London was become synonymous with pushing the boundaries of style and setting trends across the UK for quite some time now and I always find it fascinating to see the incremental changes to style that are made each time I visit.
On Saturday night Daniel and I headed to Dalston for some true grit, ending up in Vogue Fabrics: down an alley and a flight of stairs to a room sweatier than a gym sauna. The night, a tribute to early 90s house, showcased all the style shifts in the east. On the stereo was Inner City, Madonna, Jungle Brothers and on the people it was black sportswear, religious iconography and Dr Martens.

The morning after the night before, In Bed with Madonna was on TV. The 1991 documentary follows a 33 year old Madonna around while on the Blonde Ambition Tour and what struck me instantly is the similarity between her off-stage outfits and those worn by hipster kids today. Coincidence or fashions circle of life?
