Photographer of the Year! Scottish Fashion Awards 2012

It was a night that started like any other. Or at lease any other fashion evening. Tux on, invitation in hand and car booked. Although it felt the same, it ended up that the 2012 Scottish Fashion Awards were different from the others. Firstly, the venue was located next to this years X Factor auditions in Glasgow. This hilarious cock-up made for a manic entrance with a mix of music hopefuls and fashion lovers crammed at the entrance. The only similarity in the two groups was their shared confusion over where the hell to go (and some fake tan for good measure). Welcome to the jungle.

Once in, I was greeted by so many beautiful, warm-hearted people I haven't seen in too long. Niall and William from William Chambers, Hayley Scanlan, Mhairi from Bonnie Bling, Alex and Nadine from The Skinny, Gail from Magnet Creative, Danielle from Final Fashion, David Black, Rebecca Torres and so many more. I loved catching up with all my talented friends.

As I was nominated for Les Garçons de Glasgow last year and didn't win, I genuinely felt this years nomination was enough to keep me happy - totally content sitting in my chair in the auditorium filled with nearly 3000 people. When my category was shown on the screen, the beautiful Brix Smith Start pulled the paper out of that glorious SFA envelope to announce the winner.

“I'm thrilled, excited and overjoyed to announce that...the winner...of this years...Photographer of the Year...at the 2012 Scottish Fashion Awards...goes to...the fabulous and talented..."

And then I heard my name. After what felt like a decade stuck to my seat, I finally got pushed up on the stage where I babbled some kind of 'Thanks' about being proud of my Scottish heritage and feeling a lot of love in the room. As I can't recall what I said, a written thank you is a must for Slaters Menswear who dressed me, Ruffians barber who preened me and most importantly Tessa Hartmann and her team for putting together such a professional event.

The last 3 hours of the night are a complete blur but from what I can gather from the Tweets, Instagrams and press it was a blast. Nice food, good music and great company...oh yeh and the heaviest shiny Swarovski crystal award I've ever seen!
