Ted Baker: Ottoman Lounge

Photobucket

Last week, Ted Baker invited me to experience their latest 'Grooming Room': the Ottoman Lounge at High Holborn. Having had a number of grooming treatments across the UK, I've had my fair share of good and bad service. I now know, with barbershops the perfect balance of talented hair stylists, friendly staff, detail oriented surroundings and the perfect location is required to make a success.

Having worked with Ted Baker on a range of projects over the past few years, I know the eye for the nitty-gritty that the staff have. Never venturing down a new road without tying up all the loose ends, the Ted Baker name epitomises idiosyncratic Britishness like few others.

Despite my positive experience with the brand, the Ottoman Lounge still managed to exceed my every expectation. A friendly Turkish gentleman gave me a super-sharp cut while I was surprised to find a woman manicuring my nails for the first time in my life - a complimentary service. Whilst the gents either side of me had champagne and beer, I stuck with my freshly brewed coffee and enjoyed a hot towel with head, neck and back massage...another unexpected perk. It just got better and better. If all these things were enough to catch my attention, the flaming ball of cotton wool at the end of a wire got me sitting upright. A traditional Turkish method used to remove small cheek hairs without rough regrowth, it's something that has to be seen (and if you have the balls, experienced) to be believed.

Smart Sunday Blogger Brunch

On an extremely humid Sunday, Danielle from Final Fashion invited a selection of her favourite digital peeps to experience life beyond the computer screen. Brunch at from Kopapa in Covent Garden it was.

It's funny when you get a group of fashion/creative/PR/blogger types in one room, as the conversation weaves between the marketing strategy of selling straight-from-catwalk to the finer details of Google Analytics. Poached eggs on toast & a smoothie were the only additions I needed to make it a truly fulfilling afternoon.

Daisy: Kings Road, London

Sometimes animals can have as much style as their owners. I met Daisy, this 8 month old Dalmatian puppy, at Nevs Agency while prepping for a photo shoot. She was poised, playful but full of attitude.

Fabien: Monmouth St, London

I always have the feeling there's a secret society of beard wearers, a cult I want to know more about. After a bit of probing, Fabien confirmed this: "since growing a beard, I always have at least one guy come up to compliment it. With good facial hair comes instant acceptance!"

I photographed Fabien for my 100 Beard project, but think he also represents a style where the only accessories needed are on your body - tattoos and great hair. Sometimes a clean white tee and quality jeans are all you need.

100 Beards: One Month In

It has now been one month since I began my daily mission to photograph the best beards in London for the next 100 days. The 100 Beards project has had an incredible response - from an inbox filled with snaps of willing participants to support from Nick Wooster, Bruce Pask and i-D Online. Here's to the next 70 beards...

I've started a new Facebook fanpage to coincide with the 100 Beards project - check out Jonathan Daniel Pryce Photography to keep up to date with my beard discoveries.

If you have a beard you think is impressive enough to be Britain's best beard, please email a photo to 100Beards@gmail.com and I'll let you know how you can be involved in the project.
