Ricki Hall #100Beards

The hardest task when completing the #100Beards project wasn't finding the bearded men, it was selecting which photos would end up on the blog. Often I'd take 15 or 20 shots for each day, which I would painstakingly go through to find one which would end up online. Luckily when making the 100 Beards book I was able to add in some of my favourite alternatives, but was still restricted to two per subject. When photographing Ricki Hall, who marked the halfway point of the project, there were so many great shots I thought it only fair to share the best here.

Check out the photo of Ricki that made it onto Day 50 of the #100Beards blog here.

A Day with Sophia

Photobucket

I've never really been one to coo over babies. Maybe it's because I'm a man, maybe I've just not got a huge paternal instinct. When my sister was expecting her first child last year, I was excited but couldn't really comprehend how I'd feel once the baby was born. As soon as I met my beautiful niece Sophia, all that changed.

Last week, I spent my first full day flying solo and although I was thrilled (and surprised) to be trusted with a one year old, I was also slightly nervous. Anything. Could. Happen. Luckily, lots of things did happen and all of them were fun. And that's the thing. Sophia is simply so much fun. I'd be sitting for 2 minutes and she's toddle over with a book in hand, plonk herself beside me and want me to read her a story. At snack time, it was one for me, one for her, as she wanted to share every morsel with me. However, the best part about time with Sophia is peek-a-boo. She has taught me that anything can act as an object to hide behind: from the obvious (sofas, doors) to the obscure (books, remote controls, packets of raisins).

It's important to keep a camera in hand at all times when with the little one and the best snap from our day together came as part of her new favourite game. Picture this: Sophia decides she wants to play with her pop-up green tube. Now that she's mastered the art of un-doing velcro, it's a go-to toy. I turn around for 30 seconds, turn back and it's expanded across the floor with a little bum and legs sticking out one side. Naturally, I'm curious to see the view from inside the tube and who do I find? A little girl, ready to play peek-a-boo.

100 Beards Book launch at Jigsaw Menswear

On Friday night I launched the 100 beards book and exhibition at one of my favourite British stores, Jigsaw Menswear in Spitalfields. The event was packed with some of London's finest and I want to say a genuine thank you to everyone who made it down. Having lived in the big smoke for less than a year, it feels very touching to have a room filled with new friends and some spectacular beards.

The exhibition will run until December 7th at 'Jigsaw Menswear' 11 Lamb Street, Spitalfields.

City Traveller

Photobucket

I'm a simple kind of guy and when traveling I always attempt to pack light. After the recent trip back up to Scotland, I photographed it's contents filled with my favourite finds from the past few months.

Hershel Bag: The most sturdy backpack I own. Full stop.

Pretty Broken Punks Book: The best book I've read in years is a coming of age story of a New Yorker running one of the cities most notorious nightclubs. A true story. First editions currently on sale here.

RHA Headphones: Made in Glasgow with superb focus on quality. Not too large to way down my head and small enough to slip in my bag. Find the SA950i model here.

Ruffians Facial Scrub: My favourite Scottish barber now has a range of products to keep me going between visits.

Maison Martin Margiela Untitled: H&M may have stolen the brands sparkle, but MMM still has my favourite fragrance 'Untitled'.

Burton Wode Boxers: Albert Einstein printed cotton boxers. Enough said. Get them here.

Scotch & Soda Cardigan: With the cold becoming unbearable, a warm cardigan is more than necessary. I got mine from London's coolest personalised clothing service Smithfield Case. You tell them what you're looking for, they deliver you a package filled with goodies and you pay for what you keep. Personal shopping made easy.

French Connection Jeans: I rarely wear jeans so there's usually only one pair that keeps me going for a while. After my last indigo wash got holey and battered, it was time for a new pair. Much searching ensued and the only one's to come close were French Connection. Great fit, wash and fabric. My favourite pair of jeans is alive - get them here.
